ALSG (Advanced Life Support in Gynecology)

slide3The training programme ALSG (Advanced Life Support in Gynaecology) initiated in Greece in 2011, as part of an ongoing training and education for gynaecologists. The ALSG seminar is being organised at regular intervals under the auspices of the 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Athens Medical School, University of Athens. The aim of the ALSG programme is for the participants to complete the seminar successfully and to be in a position to manage gynaecologic emergencies that could potentially be life-threatening for the women or may compromise their fertility.

The duration of the seminar is 2 days and it emphasises on the hands on training. It has been acknowledged that is of help to health professionals to use algorithms that could be “lifesaving” during an emergency situation. The participants perform various medical actions on mannequins, under the guidance of experienced trainers. Furthermore, they participate in case discussions on scenarios concerning emergencies, counselling simulations and video presentations, as well as interactive lectures. The training process is completed with a written and oral examination.
